MH CET Gets 1.2 Lakh More Applications in 2017

Maharashtra DTE has witnessed a rise of 45% in the number of applications received for the exams. The last date of registration for MH CET 2017 was yesterday, March 27. A total of 38.2 lakh students have applied for the exam.

There has been a drastic rise in the number of students who have applied for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH CET) for Engineering. Maharashtra DTE has witnessed a rise of 45% in the number of applications received for the exams.

The last date of registration forMH CET 2017was yesterday, March 27. A total of 38.2 lakh students have applied for the exam. The number of applicants this year are 1.20 lakh more as compared to 2016.

Stating the reason behind the exponential increase in the number of applicants for the state’s engineering entrance exam, DTE officials said that confusion regarding national-level tests such asNEETandJEEhave forced the students to move towards state level entrance exams like MH CET.

Negative marking system of JEE and different syllabu of the exam may be one of the reasons why students are appearing for Maharashtra CET, said Dayanand Meshram, Joint Director of DTE.

He further stated that the rise in the number of applications also shows the increase in demand for professional programmes offered by colleges in the state. Stating the example for the 94,000 applications received for close to 32,000 management seats, Meshram said that professional courses are gaining popularity.

Students preparing for JEE exam claim that the difficulty level for the exam keeps increasing every year. This is another reason why students look for other options for admission to engineering colleges.
