Mumbai University Fails to Apply for NAAC Accreditation Due to Results Mess
- The NAAC accreditation of Mumbai University expired on March 31, 2017.
- The varsity is planning to reapply for accreditation in November 2017, as the results mess will be cleared by that time.
Timely declaration of results of final year courses has become one of the major concerns of the University of Mumbai. The varsity has been doing its best to declare the results of all the pending exams by September 13, 2017. Due to the ongoing results mess, Mumbai University has failed to re-apply for NAAC accreditation. The deadline for applying to NAAC rating has already passed, and the varsity has to wait until the next round, which will happen around end of 2017, to be eligible for re-accreditation.
Since April 2017, Mumbai University has been functioning without a proper accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council or NAAC. One of the principals of a college affiliated to Mumbai University pointed that the delay in announcing the results created a mess and the officials of varsity did not have time to apply for NAAC re-accreditation.

Mumbai University received ‘A’ grade from NAAC in April 2012, and the accreditation was applicable until March 31, 2017. Usually, all the universities and colleges affiliated to UGC reapply with an objective to continue their affiliations even before the previous affiliation lapses. MU’s NAAC accreditation expired in April 2017, and varsity failed to re-apply, even five months after the earlier affiliation lapsed. Now, Mumbai University is planning to apply for reaccreditation in November 2017. Replying to the Bombay High Court, Mumbai University has assured the declaration of results & issuance of mark-sheets by September 19, 2017.

Earlier, NAAC informed that they were going to revise the accreditation norms for various universities and colleges. The authorities of Mumbai University wanted NAAC to assess the university based on new guidelines. Therefore, the varsity did not apply for reaccreditation in March 2017.
