NCTE Launches Online Portal for Degree Verification Certificates for Students Pursuing Teacher Training Courses
The students pursuing teacher training courses like B.Ed and M.Ed can get their degree verification certification through the online mode. NCTE has launched an online portal to help students with this process.
Students who are pursuing teacher training courses like Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), Master in Education (M.Ed), etc., will be able to get their degree verification certificates through the online mode now. The National Council of Teacher Education, abbreviated as NCTE, has launched a portal for this purpose of providing students with degree verification certificates online.
The norms for the recruitment of teachers has made it mandatory for students who have done the courses of B.Ed, M.Ed, Master in Physical Education (M.P.Ed), Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), and Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed) to get their degrees verified from the NCTE (National Council of Teacher Education). This process used to be done manually until now.
The Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD), Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, launched the portal for online certificate verification at the inauguration of NCTE’s new building on 26th July 2019, Friday. He expressed his views on this move and said that the platform has been designed by the National Council of Teacher Education in order to facilitate the registration process for the teacher-pupil. It will make the process of document verification and essential documentation easy for all individuals who are seeking employment as teachers in schools.

As per the official statistics that are given, there are about 19,000 colleges of B.Ed in the country and the total number of teachers is 90 lakhs.
The Chairman of NCTE, Satbir Bedi, was also present at the inauguration ceremony and spoke a few words on the matter. He said that it is the school teachers who collectively decide upon the destiny of the next generation, and eventually, that becomes the destiny of the whole nation. At present, teachers in India are responsible for shaping the future of more than 25 crores students in about 15.2 lakh schools that are spread across the nation.
He further added that India has around 19,000 teacher education institutes and a total of 19.5 lakh teachers graduate from these colleges every year. This stands against the total requirement of teachers annually which ranges between 2.75 lakhs to 3 lakhs. Bedi said that this is one of the major challenges that are being faced by the teacher education sector.
