The silence of the Punjab Government on conducting a joint counselling for the next post graduate admission process is causing concerns for medical students of the state.

Already, Haryana government has decided to a conduct joint counselling for all its government and private medical and dental colleges on the basis of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET)’s PG merit list.

Earlier, in a press release issued by Haryana Government, it was stated that any admission made by private colleges including those granted deemed university status at their own level will be declared illegal and such admissions would be considered invalid under any circumstances.

At present Haryana has 9 post graduates medical colleges and two deemed universities offering PG courses in medical and dental studies.

Dhanpat Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana Medical Education said that the government took the decision to bring more transparency in the medical admission process in the state as there were a lot of complaints and counter complaints from students and parents alleging corruption in allotment of seats by the private institutes.

From the last two months, Punjab did not take any decision on the matter since it received centre's advisory on 5th December 2016 to hold combined counselling for the next PG admissions.

Dr. Sujata Sharma, Director of research and medical education in Punjab, said that the government very was serious towards students’ concern. Vikas Partap, department’s secretary is off for election duty. Once he assumes office next week a final decision will be taken.

Students of Punjab said that the state government has ignored the suggestion of the central government on an important issue.
