Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) got its new chairman when Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, a 1987 batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, took over charge.

After assuming the charge Chaturvedi shared his vision and role of CBSE in school education.

He emphasised the need for improving the quality of education in schools throughout the country. He urged to give ample thrust upon teacher quality to bring improvement in the standard of education.

Chaturvedi also said that one of his main tasks will be to make CBSE a modern and multidimensional front ranking organisation.

CBSE has all Kendriya Vidyalayas, schools approved by central government of India and all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas under its affiliation.

CBSE, established in 1962 with 309 schools, now controls over 16,000 schools and manages the board exams of over 2.5 million students in class 10th and 12th. Every year in the months of March & April, CBSE conducts the final examinations for Class 10th and 12th. By the end of May, the results are announced. The board also conducts common examination called JEE (Main) for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering and architecture for colleges in India. Earlier it conducted the AIEEE Examination which was later merged with JEE (Main).

The board also conducts NEET for admission to major medical colleges in India. Besides that, CBSE also conducts the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET), Class X Optional Proficiency Test and NET and has become the largest exam conducting body in the world.

Chaturvedi will be in charge of the school board until 15 December 2020.
