<p>The National Institute of Technology- Tiruchirapalli has decided to double its intake of Ph.D seats from 45 to 90.
Institute is going to bring several academic reforms. The virtual classrooms had been increased to 10 from 3. The Institute had utilised the virtual delivery from professors of leading universities from India and abroad. Now the institute has focused more on research and development.
Besides, a major shift in evaluation practice had been introduced this year by the senate of this institute. Alternative evaluation models apart from conventional examination patterns were launched. Formative Assessments introduced for B. Tech programmes.
“The introduction of external registration scheme had attracted more professionals from prestigious institutions, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Indian Space Research Organisation, and others. The number of external entry for Ph. D programme had gone up to 60 during the current academic year, said the director of the Institute to the media.
R. Umamaheswaran, Mission Director of recently launched Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) had been pursuing Ph.D at NIT-T, the director informed that the external registration scheme had enabled the institute to work with the country’s leading technocrats and scientists.
Under the formative Assessments introduced for B. Tech programmes if a student who had difficulty in a few courses with the conventional examination model, was permitted to undergo 30 hours of rigorous engagement in lab exercises, field visits, assignments, and open book tests and consequently allowed to successfully complete the course, added the director.
