Odisha B.Tech Student Bags Gold Medal in World Skills Competition

Aswatha Narayana Sanagavarpu won the Gold Medal in the World Skills Competition after showcasing his skills in the upcoming field of Water Technology. Along with him, Pranav Nutalapati was able to take Silver, while Shweta Ratanpur and Sanjoy Pramanik took Bronze in the competition.

An Odisha B.Tech student has achieved a feat by winning the first-ever Gold Medal for India in the World Skills Competition. The B.Tech graduate, Aswatha Narayana Sanagavarapu, who completed his undergraduate programme in Applied Sciences from CV Raman College of Engineering Bhubaneswar, displayed his expertise in Water Technology.

Aswatha Narayana Sanagavarapu has become the first and the only Indian who has been capable of winning the Gold medal. Aswatha was able to grab the first position among nin other competitors who belonged to countries like Germany, Brazil, Korea, Russia etc. With Aswatha, Lufeng Zeng from China was also able to take the Gold Medal. The competition had been held for 5 days between 23rd August and 27th August.

However, Aswatha was not the only one who won a medal at the World Skills Competition this year. Sources state Pranav Nutalapati, Shweta Ratanpura and Sanjoy Pramanik were also able to obtain a medal. Pranav Nutalapati was able to win the Silver medal in Web Designing, meanwhile, Shweta Ratanpura and Sanjoy Pramanik were both able to grab the bronze for Graphic Design Technology and Jewellery Technology respectively

The World Skills Competition is held annually and provides the young innovative minds of the world with a platform to showcase their skills. The competition is aimed at helping the youth realise their skills, work upon them and learn new techniques and information in the skill area of their choice.

Participants from India first started to partake in the skills competition in 2007. Ever since then, the Gold Medal that has been obtained by Aswatha has been the first that an Indian has achieved the first position. Previously, Indian teams have been able to obtain different silver and bronze medals along with medallions of excellence in different fields.

On testing his skills in Water Technology, Aswatha stated that he had been asked to collect different samples of water and analyse their different properties. He was further asked to undertake biological and chemical analysis so as to figure out the optimal quantity of chemicals in the treatment processes. Along with analysing samples, he stated that he needed to analyse the different pipes, valves and pumps and undertake the necessary repair work. These were some of the areas that had been tested along with assessing their skills in developing automated systems and produce sensors to carry out different functions in a water treatment plant were exclusively tested.

The journey of participating in the World Skills Competition included him participating and winning the State and the National Skills Competition accordingly. According to Aswatha’s father, the college had taken huge steps after he Aswatha won the State Skills Competition to ensure that he is able to prepare for the World Skills Competition. Among them, he stated that the Institute established a lab with all the important equipment required for the process. He added that the institute also sent Aswatha to Germany to gain training in the field.

The major attractions to Skills competitions are to make the youth understand the importance of skills in the economic development of a country. It is the experience and the chance to enhance their skills in a particular field, that not only allows them to enhance themselves but also motivate them to bring out the best in them.
