Opportunities Galore in Digital Economy, Says Noble Laureate Jean Tirole at 104th ISC
He laid emphasis on various opportunities which are being created by the digital economy.
Jean Tirole, French Noble Laureate delivered a talk on 'Business, Innovation and Society in the Digital Age' as a part of 104th Indian Science Congress at Tirupati on January 5, 2017. On this occasion, he indicated that innovation is taking deeper roots in the current knowledge-base scenario and the result is the opening of a bundle of employment opportunities. However, the things that are required to excel are economic sense and scientific insight. He laid emphasis on various opportunities which are being created by the digital economy.

He further added that innovation has become a buzzword in India where various schools and universities are playing a key role in expanding the sphere of innovation. However, the era of innovation could not usher only because of universities and highly educated people. At this juncture, start-ups also have to pay a significant role in giving a boost to innovation.
Speaking about the increase in the number of job opportunities, he exhorted that the future will witness a galore of employment opportunities in the digital economy. Therefore, students need to equip themselves with various skills at par with developments in technology.

He also spoke about creation and destruction of jobs in the digital economy. He explained that globalisation and changes in technology led to the reduction in employment opportunities. Online marketing and advent of robots are also reasons for job loss. However, there will be enormous employment opportunities in highly-skilled and delivery areas.
