Panjab University Defers Decision to Increase Fee
Panjab University decides to put a halt on increasing fee after rise in protest.
After a rise in protests regarding fee hike,Panjab Universityhas put thedecision of increasing fee to halt.
The Syndicate proposed to raise the fee for various courses at the University which received a lot of negative response from the students. Many student organisations related to various political parties protested against the increase of examination fee. By doing this, Syndicate was planning to generate anadditional revenue of Rs 35 crore.
Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor told ABVP, that the University will put a halt on the rising fee only if ABVP is successful in gettingRs 305 crore for the Universityfrom Ministry of Human Resource Development. Syndicate approved for framing examiner’s manual. A committee would be constituted that would suggest modalities on the recommendations pertaining to the mandate of the enquiry committee.
The reason for formation of the committee was the leakage of law entrance test exam 2014. While investigating the matter, Assistant Professor, Ajay Ranga who was on duty on the day of the exam was called to explain his side of story as his relative was also appearing for the exam on the same day. While defending himself, Ajay pointed out that his job of an observer at UILS while his relative was sitting in an entirely different section.
