Private Colleges Call for Bandh After Non Payment of SC/OBC Scholarship Funds by State Govt.

After continuous delay by the state government in making payment of post matric scholarship funds for SC and OBC students, the annoyed Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed by private unaided colleges and universities has decided to go on a strike on November 2 and 22.

Apart from this, another 13 such associations formed by 700 Unaided Self Financed Colleges (USFC) have decided to hoist black flags in the campus. Irked by the delay in payment, the JAC accused the government to have used the scholarship funds to pay for their own expenses. Recently, the spokesperson of JAC also threatened the government of a mass agitation by all institutes if the government further delays the payment of funds.

Dr. Anshu Kataria explained that due to nonpayment of funds, the maintenance allowance of the students was also not reimbursed which was causing problems for students in continuing with their studies. He also pointed out that despite the complete payment of funds by the central government to the state government, the state government is not releasing the payment and has instead used the money elsewhere.

Dr. Kataria revealed that the government has to pay 80 crores from the year 2014-15, Rs. 400 crore for 2015-16 and Rs. 500 crore for 2016-17 for which the admissions are already completed.

Sunil Jakhar, senior Congress leader commented that despite the issue being raised in the state assembly several times, the state government has not made the payment to the colleges. The central government has already released the funds however, they have been utilized by the state government somewhere else.
