The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced that all the Government, private and PSEB affiliated self-financing educational institutions will have their board centres. These schools can then conduct the final exams in their respective schools. Students appearing in the upcoming board exams will be able to avail the benefits of this move. Earlier, the board exam centres for students of upper primary classes used to be at different schools. For the upcoming session board examinations, students do not have to go to other schools to take the exams.

According to PSEB Chairman Yograj Sharma, the major reason behind this move is to ensure the students remain stress-free while appearing for the exams. Notably, it will be the first time students will be appearing in the board exams after COVID-19 led to the cancellation of the previous year’s board exams.

Chairman Sharma added that even though the students will not move to different schools, but teachers will be moved to different schools where they will discharge exam duties. This year, the board examinations will be conducted in two separate sessions of 50 marks each.

A couple of measures to ensure no student can cheat during the exams has also been adopted by the PSEB officials. The shuffling of the school staff members is one of them. While for private schools (because their staff won’t be deputed anywhere else), the PSEB has instructed the installation of CCTVs in classrooms.

This decision, however, has drawn mixed reactions from teachers of various districts of the state. Some teachers feel that through this move, the private schools will manipulate their board results easily. Others feel this move will de-stress the students considering how much they have had on their plates recently.

A senior education department official has welcomed the introduction of MCQ-type questions in this year’s board examinations. He added that attempting these MCQ pattern questions will bode well for the students as they are also preparing for the National Achievement Survey (NAS) which also comprises MCQ-type questions.
