SC Stays HC Order on MBBS Admissions in Maharashtra
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Central Government, Maharashtra Government, to maintain a status quo with regard to 2016 MBBS admissions.
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Central Government, Maharashtra Government, and private medical colleges, which had challenged combined counselling of students for admission to MBBS and dental courses, as per merit list of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), to maintain a status quo with regard MBBS admissions.

The bench said that Prima Facie, they are of the view that the High Court should not have stayed the orders issued by the Union of India and the State of Maharashtra dated August 9, 2016 and August 20, 2016 respectively. Therefore, the impugned order passed by the High Court of Bombay has stayed till the next date of hearing.
Several private medical colleges and the Maharashtra Government had challenged the directive of combined counselling. The batch of appeal against the High Court order will now be heard by a Constitution Bench on September 19, 2016.
