On 6th August’ 16, AISA which is All India Student’s Association organised a march called luggage march under the campaign ‘A room of my own.’ The march was conducted because there is a shortage of hostels at the University of Delhi and the shortage is not just of 1000 or 2000 room, DU has only 3,455 rooms for the 1,60,000 students.

The Vice President of AISA said to the reporters that it is a huge problem and it needs to be addressed right now because a hostel room does not seem like a big problem but it is. Shortage of hostels force the students to live in overpriced PGs and then to get a job to cover the expenses which lead to them dropping out or worse, failing.

He also said that their association met a lot of students who are going through this and it is definitely not a pretty situation. The Vice president asked the students to write all their problems on a postcard and to send it to the authorities on 8th August’ 16 so, they realise that it is a big issue.

Another student from Kirori Mal College, Vishnu asked that how a student is expected to pay Rs. 10,000 as rent for 1 BHK which he is sharing with two other guys and then said that it is ridiculous to have such overpriced places.
