Students pursuing UG courses at various colleges across Telangana hailed the decision of the government to introduce Common Entrance Test (CET) for PG courses. However, most of the colleges are afraid that CET may lead to vacant seats in M.Com, M.Sc & M.A courses at their colleges. The government introduced CET for PG courses to simplify the admission process. The examination will take place in an online mode.

There are around 50,000 postgraduate seats in various colleges affiliated to different state universities. The Telangana State Council for Higher Education decided to conduct a Common Entrance Test for PG courses in the coming years. However, most of the college managements claim that the Council needs to take certain facts into consideration before introducing CET for PG courses.

Ramana Reddy, President of Telangana Degree & PG College Association, indicated that all the state universities do not follow the same curriculum and there is variance. Therefore, the Council has to bring an academic reform before issuing notification for CET. He further added that around 1.83 lakh UG seats were vacant in 2016 due to defects in the academic admission process. Additionally, he is apprehensive about the fact that with another reform, similar things will repeat for PG courses too. Around 40% of PG seats were vacant in 2016. Hence, the Council must take all these factors into consideration before holding CET.

The Telangana Degree and PG Colleges Association is planning to submit a memorandum to the Council expressing their views on CET. On of the professors of association claimed that the government might have consulted them before implementing the CET.

He further added that the government need to carry out mock tests before holding CET to make students aware about the online examination.

However, most of the students claimed that CET for PG courses is a positive move taken by the government. They were of the opinion that CET would make the admission process easier and the candidates can choose the colleges of their choice by taking one examination.
