'SUK' Recieves 102 Proposals for Starting New Courses

The Shivaji University, Kolhapur has received 102 proposals for starting new courses in the division from 2016-17 academic year. The proposed subjects were shared during the annual senate meeting last week.
According to the master plan of the subjects, courses such as B.sc in Renewable Energy, Khadi Production and Design, MSc in Alcohol Technology and MSc in Carbon Trading & Transfer among others have been proposed.
The subjects offered in these conventional courses such as BSc, BCom and BA as well as the professional ones are unique in nature. All the courses have been included in the master plan based on the uniform criteria suggested by the Narendra Jadhav committee last year.
Earlier last year, the SUK received over 300 proposals for starting new colleges, courses, subjects, additional divisions and new streams among others. After the state government issued directives to invite fresh proposals from affiliated colleges for 2016-17, the university has asked to submit applications by December 31.
At present, the SUK has 281 affiliated colleges in Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur districts with more than 2.5 lakh students studying in them.The university imparts education from seven different faculties such as Arts and Fine arts, Engineering and Technology, Social Sciences, Science, Commerce, Education and Law.
"We have received proposals for starting new colleges, subjects or divisions for the academic year 2016-17. But from the 2017-18 academic year, the university have to present a five-year plan to the state government. This is the last year of yearly proposals.The university received many proposals for starting conventional as well as professional courses.The existing and new educational institutes affiliated to the state universities submit their proposals for starting new courses or subjects every year, which later are sent to the state government for approval." said Dr.D.R.More, Directer (BCUD) Shivaji University,Kolhapur
