AIADMK party in a recent announcement claimed that the students’ wing will carry out a massive protest against the imposition of NEET on the state on September 9, 2017. General Secretary of AIADMK revealed that they were deeply shaken and depressed with the suicide of Anitha, a medical aspirant who hanged herself, as she did not get an MBBS seat in any of the desired medical colleges. The Centre's decision to make NEET mandatory has disturbed the rights of the rural students, he added. In context to the same, a protest will be carried out that will demand nothing but scrapping of NEET mandate for the admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu.

AIADMK called for volunteers, students and parents to take part in the protest with an objective to protect social justice. Despite various efforts made by the state government to get an exemption from NEET, the central government had quashed all its recommendations.

AIADMK further pointed that even the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Late Smt. Jayalalitha was not in favour of NEET.

On the other hand, Anitha who scored 100% marks in a couple of subjects failed to secure an MBBS seat in the state due to the CBSE-centric NEET exam.

Besides Chennai, students from various cities across Tamil Nadu have been boycotting classes to put forth their demand in front of the government. Recently, a massive protest against NEET was organised by students in Puducherry wherein the authorities had to seek police intervention in order to control the students.
