Tamil Nadu is in the midst of crisis since the demise of the state’s Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and now the state government has announced holiday for educational institutes in four districts due to the expected arrival of cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’. The four districts that have been shut down include Chennai, Villupuram and Kancheepuram i.e. the region of the coastal taluks of Villupuram.

Chief Secretary B Ramamohana Rao talked about the detailed discussion the current Chief Minister had with his senior officials and mentioned in the official press release that necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of students and other residents of the state especially those who live in hostels. He further added that food and water will be provided to all such students.

Apart from the schools and other educational institutes, the state government has also asked private establishments and undertakings in the above-mentioned districts and others close to the coastal taluks of Villupuram to provide safety to their staff and allow them to either take a holiday or work from home.

This is not the only disruption that the state has faced. The year-end has been tough for the students. Anna University had to postpone the exams due to the demise of the state’s Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, cyclone Nada, Milad un Nabi public holiday. The exams that were supposed to start from December 1 will now be starting from December 17. Placements at IIT Madras were also deferred due to the demise of chief minister Jayalalitha.
