TNAU Receives ICAR-AICR Micronutrients Centre Award
With an objective to help the farmers, the centre also released its publications in Tamil and developed micronutrient mixtures particularly for 11 major crops.
The Coimbatore Centre of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has been conferred with an outstanding Indian Council for Agricultural Research – All India Coordinated Research Project (ICAR-AICR) Micronutrients Centre Award. The Coimbatore Centre has been chosen among 22 centres of Indian Council for Agricultural Research. The award was presented at the 28th National Workshop of ICAR–AICR schemes. The workshop was held at Indian Institute of Soil Science, located in Bhopal.

The research has been carried out in micro, secondary and pollutant elements in plants and soils. The TNAU centre of Coimbatore has been performing exceptionally well in the field of micronutrient research. The centre has been playing a significant role in the field of delineating the secondary and micronutrients status in the soils of Tamil Nadu. The centre fixed a critical limit with an objective to make fertilizer recommendations. The centre also figured out developmental strategies to increase soil health and crop yield.

On the other hand, the centre also carried out studies on zinc (Zn) nutrition in soil – plant – animal continuum, demonstrated the consequences of various micronutrient management strategies and created awareness among the farmers through interaction meetings, field days and spot advice.

During the workshop, Dr. T. Chitdeshwari, Professor of Department of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was awarded the S. N. Ranade Memorial Award for her significant contribution in micronutrients research. A silver medal and certificate was also awarded to her as a part of the felicitation.
