Two Scientists from CDRI Bag National Award

Two young scientists from the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) have been awarded the `Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award 2015' by the department of biotechnology under the ministry of science and technology .

Rajendra Singh and Niti Kumar from CDRI are the only two people from among 38 Council of Scientific and Industrial Research labs in India to be selected for the coveted award. It is given away every year to scientists below 35 years of age from various research institutes.

“I have been given this award on the basis of my research work and for the innovative proposal on studying the regulation of the process of spermatogenesis,“ said Singh. “We are working on the identification and characterization of a particular protein that affects sperm production,“ he said.

Niti, meanwhile, is working on how a cell is able to cope with different stressful conditions.

CSIR- Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), a premier drug research institute of India was inaugurated on 17 th Feb 1951 by the then Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru with a vision to strengthen and advance the field of drug research and development in the country.
