With an objective to create awareness about ragging, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has developed a documentary and four short films to educate the students on the ill-effects of ragging. The University Grants Commission framed various norms and regulations to curb the menace of ragging.

An official notification released by the UGC stated that the institutes, colleges, or universities have to take measures to prevent ragging on the campus. The short films and documentary regarding anti-ragging have been uploaded on the official website of University Grants Commission. The Commission directed the universities and colleges to screen these short films during the orientation and various other programmes at the time of admissions.

The official notification of University Grants Commission also indicated that ragging is a criminal offence and it is the responsibility of universities and colleges to follow the guidelines framed by UGC to not let ragging become a significant activity across the campuses.

Apart from the documentary and short films against ragging, the University Grants Commission also published the list of fake universities. Therefore, the students who are going to apply for UG/ PG programmes in various universities for the academic session 2017 must check the list of fake universities that has been published on official website, before shortlisting or applying for the courses.

The UGC further cautioned the students to not seek admissions in fake universities. If they still do so, the UGC will hold no responsibility for the same and will not be able to help them in the case of any issues that may arise. Therefore, students must be careful while applying for a university and shall carefully evaluate its recognition.
