UGC Updates Online Course Norms
UGC notifies all universities to update online course norms.
All universities and colleges have been notified byUGCto make changes in their ordinances and rules in order to facilitatetransferof credits for the degreeprogrammesoffered bySwayam.
In a notification to UGC, the HRD Ministry has askedUGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Swayam) Regulation, 2016, to promote Swayam ( a massive online open courses (Moocs) platform) for the students.

Currently, the HRD Ministry is working hard to complete all preparations to make India first Moocs platform live.
Swayam is made with the aim to eliminate the shortage of skilled and experienced teachers in the country and will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15.
Through Swayam, the students will be able to utilize the benefits of not onlyvirtualclassrooms,but also ofproperly structured lectures by experienced faculties.

According to reports, only 20% of the total course offered by an institution can be completed with the help of the online classes organised by Swayam.
Also, those students who have registered themselves with Swayam can attend online classes in order to complete studies related to their programme and at the end of the academic year they can sit for examinations at different examination centers in Universities.
Note:Universities conducting the programme at Moocs platform will transfer the credit earned by the students to their parent university.
