UNFPA Partners with IIHMR University for Health Programs

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Health and Management Research University (IIHMR U) for training in reproductive health practices.

The objective of UNFPA is to work towards the health of pregnant women and newborn children for voluntary family planning through a rights-based approach. UNFPA is looking at engaging stakeholders such as health equipment and drug manufacturers, national regulatory authority and quality control labs in capacity building activities through on-site training and workshops. In the initial stage, health officials and district level data managers from 10 high priority districts will be given training on the significance of data use and in monitoring and planning health programs.

Dr. Pankaj Gupta, IIHMR University President said that they are proud of the collaboration with such a globally recognized agency such as UNFPA on such an important project such as imparting training to the health officials for gathering data and contribute in the reduction of infant mortality and maternal rates.

The program will include consultation workshops on the use of data and gaps that exist when it comes to skills and knowledge, mentoring and hand-holding mechanisms through web-based applications, checklists, report card formats, tools, and training modules for the health officials. This will lead to an increase in the knowledge among data users regarding quality and analysis.

Focusing on and strengthening of the health systems has been a vital aspect of the national health agendas as they help in checking the efficacy of the medicines, improve the health outcomes.
