Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the Human Resource and Development Minister had conducted a live webinar on May 28, 2020, with over 45,000 higher education institutes. During the webinar, he clearly stated that exams will be held for the final year students after July. However, if the COVID-19 situation doesn’t improve by July then they will figure out new dates. The first and the second-year students can be promoted basis their performance in the previous years and internal assessment. UGC has a task-force which will finalise when and how the final year exams can be conducted.

He also said that the first and second-year students’ results will be announced by considering the average of 50 per cent marks of their previous marks plus 50 per cent marks in the internal assessment for this semester. For the first-year students, the internal assessment will be taken into account while for the second year students, marks will be given on the basis of the current year’s internal assessment (about 50%) and also 50% marks of the previous year. This arrangement will only be implemented in the areas where conducting the exam will not be possible due to COVID-19.

The Minister also mentioned that how during the lockdown, more than 4.5 lakh students have downloaded the app for NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020 practice. The government is also expanding online education as many students have started using the e-learning portals such as SWAYAM, ePathshala etc.
