UP NEET UG Round 1 Allotment 2025 Cancelled after Allahabad HC Verdict: The Director General of Medical Education and Training (DGME), Uttar Pradesh, has announced that fresh seat allotments will be made for four medical colleges in the state, following a recent directive from the Allahabad High Court. The updated seat allotment list for UP NEET UG Round 1 will be made available on the official website - upneet.gov.in.
This development follows the Lucknow bench of the High Court's invalidation of a special reservation policy that had inflated the quota to 79% during the first round of NEET UG admissions at four government medical colleges located in Kannauj, Ambedkar Nagar, Jalaun, and Saharanpur.
Out of a total of 340 seats in these institutions, only 28 were allocated to candidates from the general category. In contrast, 248 seats went to Scheduled Castes (SC), 20 to Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 44 to Other Backward Classes (OBC), as reported by India Today.
These colleges had implemented an excessive reservation policy based on four Government Orders (GOs) issued between 2010 and 2015. However, the High Court's order dated August 25 struck down all of these GOs, stating that they exceeded the reservation limits set by the State’s Reservation Act of 2006.
"The State of Uttar Pradesh is hereby directed to reallocate the seats in the aforementioned four colleges strictly in accordance with the reservation limits outlined in the 2006 Reservation Act, as well as the quotas applicable for Central and State Government seats," reads the latest notification from DGME.
Following the court’s instructions, the DGME will now conduct a fresh round of UP NEET UG 2025 counselling to reassign the seats, tentatively in the second week of September 2025.
