NEET UG 2022 Postponement is being demanded by the aspirants for many plausible reasons. For their demands to be heard, NEET UG aspirants have arranged a Twitter Campaign #NTAdeferNEETUG on Thursday, June 02, 2022. As NEET 2022 is scheduled for July 17 and the counselling ended as late as May 15, it is clear that the time for preparation is insufficient.

Students have been demanding postponement to at least August or September. Below, in this article, we have stated the reasons why NEET UG 2022 should be postponed:

Reason 1: Delay in NEET UG 2021 Counselling

In an ideal situation, the counselling for the previous year ends about before six months the next NEET UG exam. However, due to the disturbed academic sessions in the COVID-19 pandemic, the NEET 2021 examination was held on September 13, results were announced on November 03, and its counselling began after 3 months after the release of the results. The counselling was conducted until as late as May 15. This delay took away the preparation time from repeaters which may lead to one more year of theirs is wasted.

Moreover, students also point out that one year between two exams is needed for sufficient preparation. If this duration is reduced by two months (September to July) with delayed counselling, it will affect everyone’s performance.

Reason 2: CUET and JEE Exam Schedule

As per reports, the CUET exam will be held in the first and second week of July 2022 while the second attempt of JEE Main will begin on July 21. NEET UG lies between these two important exams on July 17. There are many students, mainly PCMB, who plan to appear for all these three important examinations and the preparation time between them is tremendously less.

Reason 3: AY 2022-23 to Begin in February 2023

It has already been declared that the next academic year 2022-23 will begin in the month of February 2023. Given this, students argue that the exam can easily be delayed to August/September without harming the schedule for the academic year.

The need to adhere to the academic timelines was one of the major reasons given by the Supreme Court while dismissing the petition for the postponement of NEET PG but in the case of NEET UG, the postponement will not delay the Feb 2023 academic session.

Reason 4: Single Attempt

Unlike the PCM-equivalent of NEET, JEE Main is being conducted in two sessions this year while the same luxury is not provided for the NEET UG aspirants. As the exam will only be conducted once, the students demand that they should get enough time for preparation or else, their entire year may be wasted.

Reason 5: Postponement of JEE Main

The National Testing Agency conducts both the examinations, JEE as well as NEET, and while NTA postponed both the sessions of JEE Mains examination to enable students to prepare well for the exam, the agency has been quiet in regards to the postponement of NEET 2022. Earlier, over 10k NEET UG Aspirants had written to NTA for the postponement and even filed an RTI to which NTA emailed that the exam would be conducted on its scheduled date and time.

In a nutshell, students have very valid reasons as to why NEET UG 2022 should be postponed but the question remains, will NEET UG 2022 be postponed? For now, the chances seem low. NEET PG exam this year experienced similar postponement issues and the exam was conducted as scheduled. But as stated above, postponement of NEET UG 2022 will not defer the pre-planned academic session. While both the cases differ here, it is advised that candidates should focus more on their studies as the chances stand low.

As seen during the NEET PG exam, candidates after the examination complained that the ‘postponement fiasco’ took away their time and focus from their preparation which ultimately affected their performance. Hence, NEET UG aspirants shall prioritize their studies more.

NEET UG 2022 registrations have crossed 18 lakh for the first time ever and the application correction process for the same ended on May 27.
