Classes for the academic year 2016-17 has started at various polytechnic colleges of Andhra Pradesh on 8-June-2016. The Andhra Pradesh Polycet counselling was concluded on 30th April and seats have been allotted to the candidates on 3rd June. This year the classes were commenced early compared to the previous academic year. From this year, the AP Board of Technical Education will operate its activities from Vijayawada as the Andhra Pradesh has been separated.
There are 315 Polytechnic colleges in Andhra Pradesh which consist of a total number of 83,671 seats. Out of them 44,069 seats have been filled, whereas 39,008 seats are still vacant. The government polytechnic colleges recorded 90% admissions and private polytechnic colleges recorded 44% of admissions. This year there has been very less response to the polytechnic entrance examination as most of the students joined intermediate at various junior colleges.
The AP Board of Technical Education is planning to conduct second phase of counselling in the month of July as the EAMCET counselling is taking place. Officials of the board are trying to fill up the vacant seats in the second phase of counselling. If seats are not filled in the second phase of counselling, then the officials will conduct third phase of counselling. Even last year three phases of counselling were conducted.
Students reported in the college on the first day and most of the colleges organised orientation classes for the students to get habituated to the college environment and academics.
