The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is determined to improve the quality of education at school level. The board will soon introduce an accreditation framework for all the schools affiliated to it. This framework will emphasise more on academic improvement than on huge buildings.
The board has also joined hands with the Quality Council of India (QCI) to come up with a competent accreditation framework. QCI is an autonomous body that was founded to set up and operate national accreditation structure.

According to an official, the CBSE has asked QCI to formulate a draft basis which the schools will be graded. This new grading scheme will be more focused on parameters like academic performance and learning outcomes. Less weightage will be given to infrastructure, added the official.
The official also informed that the initiative will ensure the establishment of an acceptance level for all accredited schools. This framework will not involve rating of the institutions like the popular magazines out there.
Talking about the standards for accreditation, the official said that the framework will be qualitative and easily adaptable for any type of educational institutions. A school that gets the accreditation can say that it has met the standards for acceptance and will do its best to maintain these standards.

Earlier, CBSE had launched an assessment framework in 2012. The School Quality Assessment and Accreditation introduced by the board was aimed at rating schools affiliated to it. 12 agencies were brought together to inspect and rate CBSE schools under this framework. The project was discarded after some time.
