Sajag Nagarik Manch – a Pune-based organization – has stated that Wasudeo Gade, Vice-Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), had given misleading and false biodata to the Governor’s office during the time of his appointment. Gade was appointed in May 2012 and his term as Vice-Chancellor will come to an end in May 2017.

Activist Atul Bagul stated in a press conference that according to the information obtained through the RTI from SPPU, Governor Office of Maharashtra and other sources the biodata submitted by Gade was false and it was done to strengthen his contention for the position. Bagul further said that a committee must be appointed to investigate the matter.
According to the activist, awards and employment information in Gade’s biodata are false. According to the biodata submitted by Gade, between July 1996 and June 2003, he used to work as an Associate Professor at the BR Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, Delhi University. Also, the biodata mentions that from May 1983 to April 1988 Gade was also working as Scientist E1 and E2 and as Scientist C from May 1993 to 2003.
Bagul said that both these posts are full-time employment and no one can work as a full-time employee at two places hence claiming that the biodata is false. He also said that Gade lacked the required teaching experience for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
Bagul mentioned other discrepancies in Gade’s biodata such as names mentioned in the research papers, projects that never existed, the number of seminars and conferences he attended and their names.

Gade has responded to the allegations and said that they were all false and that it is unfortunate that he is being accused without any proof. He further added that he has devoted himself to the university and has been honest throughout his course. He also said that he can prove that all these allegations are wrong.
