Andhra Pradesh: Student Unions Demand Judicial Probe into Medical Counselling

Andhra Pradesh: Student Unions Demand Judicial Probe into Medical Counselling

The Students Federation of India (SFI) and All India Student Federation (AISF) demanded a judicial probe on the filling of 'B' category medical seats byDr. NTR University of Health Sciences. The counselling which was held in the last week was opposed, students and parents. Protest surrounded the venue and situation came under the control after the interference of police. The union alleged that the Univesity has been selling seats under 'B' category.

A round table conference was conducted by students union at Vijayawada on September 11, 2016, and criticised the government that it had ignored the rules in filling the seats and demanded that a judicial probe must be conducted with sitting judge. The union alleged of a scam in counselling to the tune of crores of rupees.

Mr. K Rama Krishna, Secretary of CPI pointed that according to Article 371(D) Presidential Order, the 'B' category seats are applicable for the students of Andhra, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, there were reservations for these seats, but the TDP government has suspended the reservations and allotted seats only for the upper castes. He mentioned that the higher officials of the government are involved in the ‘B’ category medical seat scam.

Mr. KS Lakshamana Rao, former MLC said that the government is trying to privatise the education in the state and favouring private institutions. It is time for the students to fight against the privatisation of education in the state.
