Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley highlighted the significance of Indian students in the economy of United Kingdom (UK). He indicated that with Indian students studying in England, it has resulted in subsidisation of education costs in their country. On the other hand, the fact is that the number of students going to the UK to pursue higher studies has declined in the past few years. However, UK is also one of the competitive markets in the area of education.
He suggested that Indian students would rely on other countries to pursue higher education if the UK does not change its policies. He pointed out that the visa restrictions of UK indicate that students need to return back to their country after the completion of the course has resulted in less number of Indian students taking up higher studies in the UK.
Recently, British Envoy announced that Indian students could pursue higher studies in the UK with no visa restrictions. The commission also announced that the government of UK would offer near about 600 scholarships to students who wish to study abroad. The UK government collaborated with the Indian government to participate in various initiatives to promote skills and employability of students.
Due to the immigration policies of the United States and Brexit, many students are considering other countries in order to take up higher studies, mostly those where immigration policies are flexible. Moreover, France is also aiming to target 10,000 students by 2020. Representatives from various reputed institutions in France are willing to guide Indian students by organising camps in various cities across India.
