The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) commenced the assessment of Calicut University on 27-July-2016. A team from NAAC comprising nine members visited the college on Wednesday. The assessment will continue for the next three days. The team is led by Prof. SP Thyagarajan, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University. The team visited various departments of the university on the first day.The assessment will be done for the administrative blocks and off-campus centers. The officials of the team also interact with the students, staff, alumni, principals of the affiliated colleges.

Vice Chancellor of Calicut university, Mr. Mohammed Basheer opined that the university may get an A++ rating as it has all the facilities according to the criterion of NAAC. The university has taken the initiative to set up Institute of Tribal Studies and Research to provide higher educational opportunities to the tribal people. The university is being assessed for the third time.
In the first assessment which took place in 2002, the university received a 3-star rating. In the second assessment which was held in the year 2010, the university received B grade from NAAC.
The NAAC has revised the grading system. According to the new grading system, the highest grade is A++ for the institutions which scored a CGPA of 3.76/4.
