Bharathidasan University has decided to approach the UGC to seek recognition for beginning online submission to the distance education bureau for the distance education courses offered by the university.

Bharathidasan University has decided to approach the University Grants Commission (UGC) to seek recognition for starting online submission to the distance education bureau for the distance education courses it offers via the centre for distance education (CDE). The VC P Manisankar stated that the portal of the bureau will be ready for use by July.

BDU was eligible for offering distance education courses after receiving A grade as per the latest NAAC assessment. The University is in the process of preparing all the details which include the number of courses and staff, including the non-teaching staff. After the submission of the details, a distance education bureau committee will check all the details before approving it.

BDU was established in February 1982, and it has been named after the great poet Bharathidasan. The main campus of the university was situated in Palkalaiperur, spread over an area of 1000 acres. The university also has another downtown campus at Khajmalai. The campus also has hostels, central library, staff quarters, health centre, and canteen. Apart from this, the Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), which is one of the top B-schools in the country is situated within the BHEL premises. BDU has 16 schools, 4 faculties, 29 specialised research centres, and 37 departments.

It has more than 250 faculty members, and the departments/schools offer more than 150 programmes including UG, PG, diploma and doctoral courses. All the undergraduate and postgraduate courses follow then non-semester system, and the MBA and MCA courses follow the semester system.
