BHU PhD Admission 2025-26 Registration Underway; Check eligibility criteria to apply

BHU has opened registrations for PhD admissions for the academic year 2025–26 across JRF, NET, and direct modes. Candidates can apply online till December 16, 2025.

BHU PhD Admission 2025-26: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has officially begun its PhD 2025-26 admissions, inviting applications under various categories - JRF, NET and direct admission. The interview process will be conducted from January 5 to 16, 2026 , as per the department. Aspirants from arts, medicine, social science, science and ayurveda will be interviewed from January 5 to 16. Also, candidates in commerce, education, management, law, veterinary sciences, dental sciences, visual and performing arts and agricultural sciences will be interviewed from January 10 to 16.

The eligibility criteria are not same for each of the modes of entry. JRF-qualified candidates will be evaluated only through an interview, with no additional written test. NET-qualified candidates will be considered for admission based on national exam results and interview marks. BHU also provides a direct admission channel for research scholars, sponsored applicants and high-level management personnel with specific academic or professional qualifications.

BHU PhD Admission 2025-26: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the required qualifications based on their chosen admission mode.

JRF-qualified candidates from agencies such as UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, or similar bodies are eligible.
Candidates applying only with assistant professorship (without JRF/NET) are not eligible under JRF mode.
NET-qualified candidates from UGC NET or CSIR NET (Dec 2024 or June 2025) under JRF, Assistant Professorship, or PhD-only categories are eligible.
Merit for NET candidates is calculated using 70% qualifying exam score + 30% interview score.
Direct admission is allowed for candidates holding prestigious national/international PhD scholarships equivalent to UGC/CSIR/ICAR standards.
Senior management professionals with 12+ years of experience and a minimum age of 43 may be considered with Vice Chancellor approval.

Process to Apply for BHU PhD Admission 2025-26

To successfully apply online, please follow the steps given below.

Step 1: Go to the official website bhuonline.in.

Step 2: Click on the PhD Admission 2025–26 registration link.

Step 3: Register using your email ID and mobile number.

Step 4: Enter the personal details, academic details and qualification details in the application form.

Step 5: Upload the scanned copy of the necessary documents, such as photograph and signature.

Step 6: Pay the application fee by using credit/debit cards or net banking.

Step 7: Verify all information and submit the application form.

Step 8: Download and save the confirmation page for your record.

Direct admissions are only for scholarship holders and senior management professionals with specific criteria. If the seats are left vacant after the first round, BHU will hold a second round of counselling from February 12, 2026, to fill up the leftover seats to ensure maximum utilisation of PhD seats in all the departments.
