BML Munjal University Announces 3rd Law Conclave on Regulating Artificial Intelligence in India

The School of Law at BML Munjal University (BMU), a Hero initiative, is holding its third annual Law Conclave.  It will include law firms, think tanks, industry associations, technology start-ups, prominent academics, and policy makers.

The School of Law at BML Munjal University (BMU), a Hero initiative, is holding its third annual Law Conclave. The Law Conclave is scheduled for 26th August 2022 at the India Habitat Centre. It will include law firms, think tanks, industry associations, technology start-ups, prominent academics, and policy makers. The conclave is themed 'Regulating Artificial Intelligence: Issues and Options'. 

Healthcare, finance, governance, agriculture, and management are among the sectors where Artificial Intelligence (AI) has shown to be beneficial, but AI includes its own set of risks and concerns. The Law Conclave will address issues and concerns regarding AI deployment given the fact that the legal framework for regulating artificial intelligence is still in its infancy. 

The distinguished panelists includes-

  • Atul Tripathi (Principal Data Scientist Cyber Security, Tech Mahindra),
  • Raj Shekhar (Lead, Responsible AI, NASSCOM),
  • Rohan K. George,
  • Partner,
  • Samvad Partners,
  • Dr. Sarayu Natarajan, Aapti Institute, and
  • Prof. Dr. (Dr.) Sudhir Krishnaswamy (Vice Chancellor, National Law School of India University), and
  • Dr. Avik Sarkar (Visiting Associate Professor, Data, Technology & Public Policy, Indian School of Business).

The Dean of the School of Law at BMU, Prof. Pritam Baruah, commented on the significance of the conclave, "We are delighted to announce this year's law conclave on artificial intelligence regulation. As technology evolves, the school's engagement with real-world challenges continues. It is our goal to develop insights for regulating AI-led innovations by bringing together entrepreneurs, lawyers, policy makers, and researchers.We must design frameworks that are sensitive to our context when balancing the benefits of AI-driven technology with its risks." 

Knowledge and skills that are internationally benchmarked are created, preserved, and imparted by BMU. Through its Schools of law, management, economics, commerce, and engineering, the university aims to transform higher education in India through innovative teaching, learning, and research. A range of undergraduate and graduate programs are offered at the university, including a B.Tech in Engineering, a BA in Economics, a BBA in Business Administration, a BBA in Law, a BBA in Law, as well as MBA and PhD programmes.
