The examination culture in India is such that it puts undue pressure on a child to score well in the boards. Those who are not able to perform well are often looked down upon as they have committed a crime.
But amidst all this, there is one parent who has stood by her son and is proud of his score. Vandana Katoch, a mother from Delhi is celebrating her son’s marks and also posted about the same on social media.
Her post on Facebook mentioned how proud she is of her son who scored 60 percent in class 10 boards. The score is not 90 but it doesn’t matter to her as she has seen her son struggle with a few subjects and was on the verge of giving up but then managed to push himself and made it through. She also had a message for him and others like him that they should chart their own course, widen their horizons, and at the same time, keep the goodness, wisdom and curiosity, and sense of humour within them alive.

Katoch’s message for her son won a lot of hearts over the internet and her post received more than 5,000 likes and around 3.3k shares. Her post is refreshing and offers new insight into how people tend to usually perceive the results of board exams. Her views highlight the fact that a child’s mark sheet cannot define him/her as a person and there is more to a person than his/her marks.

Judging a child by his/her marks is not the way to measure a child’s capability or potential. Her post also sends out a message to all the other parents out there to celebrate their child’s achievements, and encourage and support the children so that it helps take off the parental pressure from the children.
