Zero Takers for 16 Chennai Engineering Colleges as Counselling Concludes

Most of the seats among the total number of engineering seats in TN remains vacant after the final counselling. The statistics show shocking results about the engineering trend in the state where only 13 colleges got 100% admissions.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Statistics

The counselling process for admissions in the Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu concluded on 28t July, Sunday. Surprisingly, the admission numbers reveal that 16 colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu see no admissions in their Engineering Specialisations. Later, it showed that only a handful of engineering colleges, which add up 13 in number saw 100% admissions.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Tamil Nadu conducted the counselling session for the aspirants pursuing to join engineering courses. There is a total of 1.71 Lakh seats available for B. E. Courses in the 479 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The 1st Phase of the Engineering admission counselling was conducted for the special category student. Afterwards, the counselling sessions for the general category candidates were conducted in 4 rounds from 3rd July 2019 onwards. When the general counselling commenced, there were a total of 1,67,101 seats available for admission. The 4th and final round of counselling concluded on 28th July. The final quota allotted was also disbursed to the students.

The final numbers suggest that only 76,364 seats got filled where the total number of available seats were 1,67,101. Thus, as many as 90,727 seats remained unfilled which is the higher number in comparison.

Only 13 Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu got 100% admissions out of which, two are the state-financed one. Only 157 colleges got more than 50 percent of seats filled. In 82 engineering colleges, only 10 per cent of seats got filled. 44 engineering colleges reported less than 5% intake.

In the faculty of Mechanical Engineering, a steep fall in applications has been noticed this year. A fall has also been reported in the specialisations of Civil, Electronics, Aeronautical, Electrical And Instrumentation Engineering faculties.
