Responding to state CM's call to provide inputs towards the formulation of a state budget, students of Doon University actively participated in the budget consultations giving valuable suggestions.
During the course of interaction, students highlighted the glaring problems with regard to the lack of infrastructure, faculty library etc.in the college of Uttarakhand.
The purpose of a consultation organised in February on 2016 was to invite suitable suggestions from different sections of the society which might help to prepare upcoming state budget, people friendly. In this public event, a small team of the department of economics participated from Doon University. They actively participated and had a healthy discussion on issues they put up. In the last budget, it was seen that government reduced the budget allocation in the education sector.
Students of the University raised questions on the lesser budget allocation for higher education as well as school education. However, students raised the issue that there are many degree colleges in hill regions where faculties are not appointed for many years and more than half of the colleges don't have even their own land and buildings while thinking about library, science and computer labs, sports facilities in the college are like daydreams for all the students of those regions.
As response to our questions and suggestions the chief minister agreed to our concerns although at the same time he explained the efforts made by the government in earlier years and revealed vision and planning of future for improving the condition of higher education in the state.
