DU to Sets-up a Special Cell for North Eastern Students

Delhi University has set up a special cell for North Eastern Students. The main aim of this initiative is to attract more students from North East region to DU. The special cell will collaborate with various schools in northeastern states to impart information and knowledge about DU colleges and about the university's admission process. Admissions are scheduled to begin from April 2018.

As per the sources, the university has announced 2% benefit in merit/cut-off for OBC women to encourage higher education and its importance in girl students from the reserved category.

According to the reports, Prof Maharaj K Pandit, head of the committee mentioned that the main aim of the drive is to educate the principles and students about DU admission processes and other important information. The 2% cut off has been introduced by the panel as the proportion of northeastern girls studying in the university was much lesser than that of boys.

However, the DU panel also mentioned that this was not the case with other reserved categories. In ST/ SC category the number of girls and boys studying in the university was almost equal, but in general category, the case is totally different. The number of boys were very less as compared to girls enrolled in the university.

The panel also decided to start a Computer Based Online Test (CBOT), for all the postgraduate courses in the university from this academic year. They also decided to set up a separate tab for Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board in the main admission/application form.

Prof Pandit also said that the panel has decided to send the advisory to all DU colleges so that forensic experts can verify the documents and certificates of the students.
