Exam Dates for Medical & Engineering Courses in Kerala Announced

The examination dates for entrance into the medical and engineering colleges in Kerala have been announced. The exams would be held for 2016 on April 25 to 28 at 350 centres across Kerala as well as in Mumbai. Delhi and Dubai.

According to the commissioner for entrance examination they are expecting 1, 75, 000 students to apply for the entrance examinations this year that is up from 1, 60, 343 applications last year. According to the statements made to the mediapersons here on Thursday by education minister P.K. Abdu Rabb and Commissioner B.S. Maoji, there are 2,900 seats for the MBBS course and 1660 seats for the BDS course. As far as engineering courses are concerned there are 58,836 seats available for admission.

The breakdown of the number of seats for other courses in medical stream is as follows: BAMS (Ayurveda)-900, BHMS (Homoeo)-250, BSMS (Siddha)-50, B.Sc Agriculture-209, B.Sc. Forestry-30, BVSc.& AH-260, BFSc.9 (Fisheries)-55. Similarly in the Engineering stream, the number of seats is: B.Tech. (Agricultural engineering)-49, B.Tech. (Food Engineering)-30, B.Tech. (Dairy science and Technology)-180, B.Tech. (Food Technology)-40, Architecture-1,240.

In the engineering courses the admission would be based upon the normalisation of marks scored in the entrance test and those in the qualifying examination. The online application can be done through the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Exams from January 3 to 29. However the submission of the printout and related documents needs to be done at the office of the Commissioner before January 30.

From January 2 the security cards and prospectus can be had at 168 post offices in and outside the state. The application fee is Rs 1000 for the general category candidates and Rs 500 for the Scheduled castes. According to the minister the students from the scheduled tribes are exempted from paying any fees.
