GATE 2024 PI and ME Aspirants Request Change in Exam Date

GATE 2024 PI and ME aspirants have been requesting a change in the exam date as GATE ME and PI papers are scheduled for the same date and thus clash with the candidates who are appearing for both.

GATE 2024 PI and ME Paper Clash: The organizing institute of GATE 2024, IISc Bangalore, has scheduled the papers for Production & Industrial Engineering (PI) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) on the same day i.e., February 3, 2024. Although the papers are to be held in separate forenoon and afternoon shifts, many candidates who are appearing for both papers have requested a change in examination date. Appearing for two papers on the same date is not only hectic but may also affect the preparation of the students.

Furthermore, only two papers are being held on February 11, EC and EE. Hence, GATE 2024 ME and PI candidates are requesting to shift either ME or PI to February 11. Now that GATE 2024 admit card has been delayed, candidates are also speculating that it might be due to bringing forth a modification in the examination schedule. However, this is unlikely to be the case.

In response to the complaints on X, earlier Twitter, the examination authority cited that multiple two-paper combinations may appear on the same date. In such cases, the same exam centre will be allotted for both GATE 2024 PI and ME papers. IISc Bangalore also clarified that due to operational constraints, rescheduling the papers is not possible. Several two paper combinations may appear back to back, due to operational constraints associated with scheduling a large number of papers. Hence, it is not possible to change the schedule. We will allot the same center for both papers for such candidates.

Now concerning the admit card, delays in the release of the same have been observed in previous years as well. In 2023, the admit card was published about a week after the scheduled date. Hence, students are advised to focus on their preparation and accordingly appear for GATE PI 2024 in the forenoon session and GATE ME 2024 two hours later in the afternoon session.
