The Directorate of Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University, in association with Vivekanada Kendra, Asaam Prant Guwahati, organised a yoga festival on May 27 and May 28 at the PD seminar hall of the university. The programme was attended by many noted guests.
Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University offered the guests a warm welcome and expressed that the aim of this yoga festival was to overcome all kinds of sufferings that could lead to a a sense of freedom. In his speech, he highlighted the benefits of yoga and how yoga can contribute in maintaining one’s good health and how it can help in living a healthy lifestyle. The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. Not only this, yoga also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality..
Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, said yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment and harmony between man and nature.
