In a move to improve the quality of higher education prestigious Gulbarga University has planned to introduce entrance test again for admissions to various post-graduate courses.
While addressing the media in a press conference the Vice Chancellor of the University S R Niranjan said that he would make all possible efforts to implement the entrance test from the next academic year starting from 2017. Only marks obtained in the entrance test will be taken into consideration for admission to all 37 postgraduate courses.
The VC also said that the university is largely dependent on the degree marks cards for determining the intellect of a student while admitting them to the PG courses . But this process was not faultless. Therefore the university is interested in introducing entrance test for admission to postgraduate courses again.
While talking about the importance of the new process he said that such a quality test would help prevent injustice being meted out to deserving and intelligent students. It will also improve the overall quality of education at the undergraduate level. If students understand that their marks obtained in the degree exam would no longer help them getting a postgraduate seat, they would not definitely indulge in malpractices at the examination and study with more seriousness.
When the media persons asked the VC whether the proposed entrance test would affect the intake of any postgraduate course, he revealed it will not affect the intake of any postgraduate course in any way. The university will not reduce the intake capacity for the courses. They will just fill all seats with better performers in the entrance test. All the question papers for the entrance test would be based on the three-year degree course syllabus. There is no need for the serious students to worry at all.
