The High Court of Madras has issued a notice to the state government regarding the extension of scholarship facilities for BC/MBC students studying in the private colleges.

The plea was filed by a student named S. Sowmya. She was a student of a private college who belongs to Vanniar Community, a backward caste in Tamil Nadu. Her father is a daily wage earner. She joined B.Sc in a private college. after the completion of the first year, she was unable to pursue her second year due to lack of financial stability. She belongs to Taramangalam of Salem district.

She made her representation to High Court stating that the students of BC/MBC studying in the private colleges must be availed with scholarship facilities. The government must not discriminate the students studying in government and private colleges. She prayed the authorities to consider her plea for the extension of scholarship facilities to BC/MBC students studying in private colleges.
