IIMIDR, IIMB and IIML Postpone Annual Convocations; IIMIDR to Provide Provisional Degrees

IIM Indore will provide provisional degree to its students. IIM Indore, Lucknow and Bangalore had deferred their annual convictions, which were to be held in March, amidst coronavirus fears. The decision had been taken for the safety of students.

March 25: In a fresh update, IIM Indore has announced that it would be granting provisional degree to the students. The Public Relation Office of IIM Indore gave out the information that the institute's decision to grant provisional degrees to its students is being taken so that they do not have any issues in joining jobs offered to them in the campus placements of IIM Indore. The convocation ceremony of IIM Indore was supposed to be held today on 25 March 2020.

The PRO said that email or speed post would be used to send the provisional degrees to the students.

Himanshu Rai, the Director of IIM Indore, has also informed the students via Twitter that IIM Indore will be shifting all classes online and the students will be able to attend online classes in the upcoming three days. The director also said that any issues faced by the students will be addressed by various programme officers at the institute.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus scare, the premier Indian Institutes of Management - IIM Indore, IIM Bangalore and IIM Lucknow have decided to postpone their annual convocations.

IIM Bangalore’s convocation was supposed to be held on March 20, 2020. IIMB Director, Prof G Raghuram has said that all stakeholders were consulted and the decision to postpone the event has been taken after taking all the inputs. He also said they will continue to monitor the situation and as and when the situation gets better, the new convocation date will be announced. The respective programme offices will get in touch with the students with regards to the receipt of their degrees.

IIMB has also asked the students who have travelled abroad recently to pay a visit to the campus doctor at the earliest. It has also given the option of working from home for people who have a sore throat, cough and fever. The institute has also provided hand sanitisers at public places within the campus.

Similarly, IIM Indore has also decided to postpone its annual convocation, which was supposed to be conducted on March 24, 2020. IIM Indore spokesperson said that over 700 students were to be given degrees at the convocation. IIM Lucknow has also decided to postpone its annual convocation, which was earlier scheduled for March 21.

As per an email sent by IIML, the decision has been arrived at considering the safety of the students amidst coronavirus scare. The new date for the convocation will be declared soon.
