IIT Delhi to mentor 100 School Girls under STEM Mentorship Initiative

IIT Delhi is guiding 100 school girls through a special STEM mentorship programme. The initiative aims to inspire young learners with practical science and technology exposure.

IIT Delhi STEM Mentorship Initiative: The Manasvi STEM Mentorship Programme of IIT Delhi will provide mentorship to 100 school girls , mainly those studying in government schools. The programme seeks to bring access to quality STEM education to young women who are most often deprived of exposure to advanced scientific learning spaces. It brings students from different schools to IIT Delhi and introduces them to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The 2025 version of the programme followed a structured, multi-tiered, multifaceted process that took place between May and December . In the summer session, the participants took lectures from the faculty, researchers and women achievers of IIT Delhi. These sessions introduced them acquainted with advanced concepts, emerging new career pathways and practical uses of STEM, laying a solid academic foundation for them.

As the months progressed, the programme shifted from theory to practical training. Students will perform chemistry experiments, assemble simple physics models and observe drone demonstrations . They even had close interactions with IIT Delhi students, so that they could see how STEM works in research labs and academic projects.

During their last term, the girls were divided into small groups and tasked with coming up with solutions based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This phase of creativity prompted them to critically analyse, recognise real problems and offer realistic, technology-based solutions. It took them out of their classrooms and into teamwork and problem-solving, as well as presentation skills.

Overall, with the next edition set to onboard a fully government-school cohort, IIT Delhi aims to deepen the programme’s impact and inspire more young women to pursue STEM fields confidently.
