IIT Gandhinagar Receives 14 Crores on 8th Convocation Ceremony

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has seen a donation of 14 crores which have been donated by the alumni along with the well-wishers of the college. More than 390 students from all the programmes at the college graduated along with receiving various medals and awards in different fields.

IIT Gandhinagar 8th Convocation Ceremony

IIT Gandhinagar hosted its 8th convocation ceremony on 27th July 2019. While addressing the graduating students at the college, the officiating Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Amit Prashant, stated that the Institute had received a huge amount of 14 crores accumulated by the contributions made by the alumni along with the well-wishers of the Institute from across the globe. He also added that among the donations, new scholarships have also been introduced at the college of ₹1 lakh per year.

On the day of the convocation ceremony of IIT Gandhinagar, 394 students had successfully graduated from the Institute. Among them, there were 145 students graduating from the undergraduate engineering programmes, i.e. B.Tech, meanwhile, 105 students graduated from the postgraduate engineering programmes, i.e. M.Tech. The other courses, i.e. B.Tech-M.Tech dual degrees saw 2 students graduating from the programmes, while 1 student graduated from the B.Tech-M.Sc Dual Degree. Apart from the engineering programmes, students also graduated from other programmes that are offered by the college. M.Sc programmes saw 86 graduating students, 21 students graduated from MA programmes, 7 students from PGDIIT programmes while 27 students graduated different PhD programmes from the college.

At IIT Gandhinagar, the students were also awarded various medals and awards which includes 25 Gold Medals, 13 silver medals as well as 15 medallions in the different fields of excellence such as in overall performance, exceptional research, academics, leadership, innovation, sports as well as social service.

In a statement made by the Director, Amit Prashant, around 43% of the students took the opportunity to gather international exposure of their respective fields by participating in different international conferences, summer internships as well as study abroad programmes. He further added that the 45% of the students chose to pursue higher education as well.

The placement record of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar in 2019 has also been remarkable, with over 100 companies visiting the campus for placement drives. Sources state that 75% of the students from IIT Gandhinagar’s B.Tech programmes were placed in these companies. Among the top companies that visited the college, Indian Oil Corporation, TATA Consultancy Services, L&T Construction, Goldman Sachs, as well as Nutanix, chose students from both B.Tech and M.Tech programmes.
