IIT Kharagpur (IIT KGP) and Japan's Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) have entered into a partnership for focusing on a research centre for collaborative projects. They will look at the ‘state-of-the-art joint certification courses in management and technology to be taught by the experts and faculty in both India and Japan. This will also include a visit to the host institutions, a statement said.
As per the MoU between the institutes, there will be an emphasis on professional development of students. Japan is known for being a leader globally when it comes to infrastructure, urban science, high-speed railways, advanced manufacturing, domain experts, data science, artificial intelligence and the startup culture, PP Chakrabarti, IIT KGP’s Director said.
The proposed centre at IIT KGP will have training modules and collaborative projects in these areas conforming to the work culture of Japan and India, with their unique management and leadership styles, he said.

According to the MoU on January 21, joint business and academic activities will be undertaken, including events for promoting education, employment, and internships for students. These activities, led by IIT KGP will also be open to other engineering institutes. SK Bhattacharya, IIT KGP’s Deputy Director said health monitoring and maintenance of infrastructural facilities will be based on new technological developments, and they will be very important.

The fact that Japan is an expert in this area along with sensor technologies will prove to be very helpful in offering short courses by Japanese organisations and IIT Kharagpur, Bhattacharya further stated.
