IIT Roorkee to consider the performance of students in mid-term exams to award grades for the Spring Semester 2019-20. Check IIT Roorkee new grading system here.
IIT Roorkee has come up with a new grading system for the Spring Semester 2019-20. The idea is to assess the performance of students without conducting the exams. The performance of students in the spring semester will not be conducted for academic-performance based termination of programmes and slow pace programmes. According to the official statement issued by the premier institute, the new plan will override several existing causes. However, the institute had no option except to look for alternative assessment.
The performance of students in mid-term exams and assessment, which was carried out during the online teaching sessions shall be taken into consideration to award the grades, Based on the assessment and marks/ grades in mid-term exams, students will be awarded Satisfactory (S)/ Unsatisfactory (U). The certificate awarded to students will not have grade points.
If a student fails in the grading process as mentioned above, he/ she can opt for re-evaluation or re-exams. The dates for the same will be confirmed soon.
For M.Tech thesis, Ph.D. thesis and B.Tech projects, IIT Roorkee will opt for online evaluation. Students who are yet to complete their thesis or projects or need more time to work on the same can choose for deferred evaluation. At the same time, students can also opt for deferred evaluation for M.Tech and Ph.D. course work. The evaluation process will take place in the first four weeks of the upcoming semester.

Due to the national wide lockdown from March 2020, IIT Roorkee opted for online teaching. Therefore, a new system of grading has been prepared to assess the performance of students and award grades.
