India and Canada Sign MoU for Talent Mobility

India and Canada Sign MoU for Talent Mobility

An agreement to promote talent mobility by collaborating innovation and research representatives, has been signed between India and Canada. The memorandum was singed under supervision of the Union Cabinet headed by Narendra Modi, present Prime Minister of India.

The main aim of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to promote and support cross-border partnerships by focusing on collaboration of industry-academic and research excellence between the two countries to generate a healthy and innovative profit for both the countries.

The MoU was signed on February 21, 2018, with an intention to boost the talent mobility collaboration. This agreement will help graduate level researchers of India and Canada to initiate industry-academic cross-border cooperation through their academic researches.

This graduate level academic research mobility programme will help and support approximately 110 Ph.D and Master’s student researchers of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) stream of both the countries.

A 12 to 24 weeks research programme will be planned with the research laboratories of Canadian universities for the selected students from the Indian universities eligible for this programme. The research programme will be for a period of three years. This process of sending researchers will be the same for Canadian researchers. The Cabinet said that, approx 40 researchers each from India and Canada, will be selected for this three-years research programme under the supervision of industry partners present in both the countries.

Cabinet added that, this association is hoped-for leading new joint scientific publications, knowledge creation, IP generation, industrial exposure, etc. The Memorandum of Understanding will also help in strengthening the awaited relationship in Innovation Cooperation, Science and Technology with Canada.
