Here are a few probable reasons for the withheld status of the GATE result -- Defects in Documents: Either the category certificate was not clear/ blurry/ invalid, or outdated
- Final Year Marks Scrutiny: Sometimes, the results might be withheld if the final year UG certificate/ marksheet is under scrutiny. In case your UG marksheet is not clear, that might also lead to a withheld result status
- Unresolved Discrepancies in Application Form: You might have received an email to rectify defects in the application, and you may have missed the March 15 deadline
- Probable Mismatch of Image: Mismatch of image available on the admit card and image captured on the exam day (less chances for such issue)
Solution for GATE 2026 Result Withheld Status
In order to rectify the defects, you need to contact the exam authority directly, IIT Guwahati.- Solution 1: Write an email to helpdesk.gate@iitg.ac.in with your enrollment ID and the result withheld screenshot immediately
- Solution 2: Send an email with the subject: "Result Withheld - Enrolment ID: [Your ID] ." Attach proof of the corrected document (e.g., your valid Category Certificate or clear ID proof). The email ID is helpdesk.gate@iitg.ac.in. This solution can be followed only when you missed the recification window/ deadline
- Solution 3: Call the helpdesk immediately at 0361-258-6500 and figure out the way to remove the withheld status
